Full- or part-time | temporary (18 month) | Clinic and Polyclinic for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy

Our clinic in Munich is a leading center for patient care, teaching, and cutting-edge research, with a strong emphasis on unraveling the complexities of psychiatric and neurodegenerative diseases. This involves delving into the causes of these conditions, with a particular emphasis on tissue homeostasis and the influence of cellcell communication on cellular metabolism.
We are also deeply interested in investigating how psychiatric and neurodegenerative diseases differ from each other at a molecular and cellular level. To achieve these goals, we are generating patient-specific stem cell models (iPSC) and differentiate these iPSC into relevant neuronal cell types.
A key aspect of our work involves the thorough characterization of these cell models and their comparison to patient phenotypes observed in the clinic, bridging the gap between basic research and clinical understanding.

Your responsibilities:

  • Independently performing cell biology work (biosafety levels S1 and S2), including the cultivation and differentiation of human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC) into various cell types of the nervous system, especially neurons, microglia, and brain organoids.
  • Performing molecular biology and biochemical work (viral transduction, cloning, Western Blot, qPCR, etc.).
  • Performing histological work (immunohistochemistry; confocal microscopy; etc.).
  • Generation of single-cell RNA and whole-genome sequencing data.
  • Careful processing and analysis of the obtained data.

Your profile:

  • You hold a university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in biology, biotechnology, biochemistry, or a related field
  • You possess strong analytical thinking skills, are passionate about tackling complex research problems, and have a genuine self-driven interest in expanding your knowledge.
  • You have demonstrable experience in cell culture and molecular biology techniques. Hands-on experience with iPSC would be highly advantageous but is not a prerequisite.
  • You have a strong interest in contributing to research focused on understanding psychiatric and neurodegenerative diseases.
  • Basic knowledge of computer programming (Python, R, or MATLAB) would be a plus but is not a prerequisite.
  • You are a dedicated team player with excellent communication skills. Good English language skills would be a further advantage in our international research environment.

We offer you:

  • EGYM well pass, corporate benefits and discounts (e.g. Käfer), cafeteria, sports and cultural offers, company bike
  • Free use of the library through a branch of the Munich City Library located in the building
  • Working in the heart of Munich at Max-Weber-Platz with very good accessibility by public transport such as the subway, S-Bahn or tram
  • Company pension plan through the Federal and State Pension Institute (VBL)
  • Self-realization through a varied and technically demanding job with interdisciplinary cooperation between various departments of the clinic

We look forward to your application!
