With the founding of the Faculty of Medicine of the Technical University of Munich (TUM) in 1967, the Klinikum rechts der Isar became the University Hospital of the TUM. Together, the hospital and the Faculty of Medicine, with their approximately 1,500 students and more than 1,200 scientific employees, are among the most research-intensive medical locations in Germany. The training of future physicians also needs not shy away from nationwide comparisons: TUM regularly occupies first-class places in the state examinations in medicine.

Triad of research, teaching & patient care

Most of the chairs, lecture halls, institutes and facilities of the Faculty of Medicine are located on the hospital's main campus on Ismaninger Straße. Together, the Faculty of Medicine and the University Hospital stand for a trusting and results-oriented interaction of research, teaching and patient care. The research focuses are closely linked to the four most important core areas of the University Hospital: cancer diseases, cardiovascular diseases, neurological diseases, and allergies and immune diseases.
