The Chair of Regenerative Medicine of Cardiovascular Diseases under the leadership of Prof. Alessandra Moretti, PhD, is dedicated to research on cardiac developmental, disease, and regeneration. Main focus is disease modelling with human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) and designing of novel therapeutic approaches to treat cardiovascular diseases. That comprises (1) the deciphering of pathogenic processes underlying congenital heart defects by using cutting-edge technologies e.g. single cell multiomics and advanced genome editing; (2) the engineering of 3D cardiac hiPSC models and organoids to retrace the patient-specific cardiac disease in vitro by inspection of the involved molecular and cellular mechanisms and, (3) the identification of possible targets to stimulate endogenous regeneration processes.
